Borthwick’s squad is set to include multiple Harlequins and Saracens players, just as it did during the Autumn Internationals back in November. England ended 2024 with a comprehensive 59-14 victory over Japan.
Marcus Smith In the Best Form of His Career for Club and Country
Fly-half Marcus Smith scored 14 points for England in their large-margin triumph over Japan. He is set to start at number 10 for the latest championship where England are 7/2 in the Six Nations 2025 odds for the trophy.
It was Smith’s drop goal that earned England victory over Ireland in the Six Nations in 2024. They are 5/2 in the rugby betting to prevail again over the second-placed team in the world rankings.
Since making his debut for England in July 2023, no fly-half from a tier nation has scored more tries than the Harlequins player. He has recorded eight tries for his country and 18 line breaks. With the form he has been in for his club in 2024, Borthwick will be confident in some big performances from the 25-year-old.
Ben Earl Impressed During Autumn Fixtures
Saracens’ Ben Earl was part of the last England team that won the Six Nations in 2020, and he will be hoping for more success in the championship this year. The flanker scored his fourth and fifth try for his country in the success over Japan back in November.
Earl was named in the Team of the Season for the Premiership 2023-24 campaign. He also produced a big performance in England’s 23-22 victory over Ireland in last year’s Six Nations. During the 2024 championship, he recorded 73 carries, the most by any player at the tournament.
Now as vice-captain, Earl is one of the leaders in Borthwick’s team. He has a wealth of experience in international rugby, and he is arguably the best flanker in the sport right now.

England captain Jamie George is approaching his 100th cap for his country, an important milestone that is likely to reached during the 2025 Six Nations Championship. The Saracens hooker played his 97th game for England against Japan, and should he remain fit, his 100th cap will come at home to Scotland in the Calcutta Cup.
George is a three-time winner of the Six Nations. He was part of the England winning teams in 2016, 2017 and 2020. The first of those successes was a Grand Slam triumph, with England winning all five of their matches.
As the leader of the team, George has a critical role to play at the Six Nations. There are likely to be a few new faces in the England squad, and the 36-year-old’s job is to ensure they settle into the camp and produce their best rugby for their country.
The 2025 Six Nations begins on the 31st of January when 2022 winners France host Wales in Paris.
