The WWE is one of the biggest competitions in the world, but the events have predominantly taken place in the USA. Venues in the UK have hosted some WWE offerings, usually taking the form of lead-up promotions to major events such as the Road to WrestleMania Europe Tour.
Now, though, according to a recent announcement from Triple H, the UK could be set to get its own major WWE event next year. The iconic star even hinted that it could be the biggest UK WWE event ever. This makes sense, as it coincides with the competition’s recent ties with Netflix and quest to corner an even greater share of the global market.
Is WWE Heading Back to London?
In a recent piece of hugely exciting news for WWE fans in the UK, Triple H said that there will “for sure” be a premium live event in the country next year. The former wrestler turned chief content officer for the WWE said that he views the UK as a key market, and one that will help massively with the brand’s international expansion.
Up to now, there has been no official date or location confirmed, but it’s reasonable to speculate that it could take place at Wembley. The last time the iconic stadium hosted a WWE event was SummerSlam in 1992, so another date is long overdue. Having the event at Wembley makes perfect sense, as it has a capacity of 90,000 and is easy to access for international fans.
WWE Expanding in Netflix Era
A UK PLE would make sense in this new era for the WWE, in which it is rapidly expanding and hoping to bring in new fans from countries all over the world. It recently struck a huge deal with Netflix, with the streaming platform hoping to expand the array of content available massively. There’s a strong chance that any live event in the UK could be streamed live on Netflix.
WWE has also found other ways to reach a wider audience in the modern entertainment era. For instance, it has been represented in almost every offshoot of the gaming industry. Along with console and mobile titles, there are hugely popular jackpot slots like WWE Clash of the Wilds and WWE Legends Link & Win. These tap into the booming online casino market, which has proven to be a tried-and-tested place for boosting franchises.
What Would a 2026 UK Event Look Like?
If this UK event happens next year, it could include some key features that set it apart from some of the traditional PLEs that occur in the USA. The most notable thing would be that this show would attract a more diverse international crowd, with fans likely travelling from other European countries and the Middle East.
A UK PLE could also have a special feature that focuses on homegrown talent. There are a few big names in the industry from these shores, including Drew McIntyre and Ridge Holland. These names will likely feature heavily if the event takes place.
It looks like a new WWE event is going to happen in the UK next year, but Triple H is currently keeping his cards close to his chest. That could mean that there are grand plans for a huge surprise, and one that will blow past UK events out of the water.
